The Medal Society of Ireland recognises and strictly abides to the long established laws relating to an individual’s fundamental right to privacy. The Medal Society of Ireland is fully committed to respecting and safeguarding your privacy.
Based in Ireland and governed under Irish and European Union Laws, The Medal Society of Ireland adheres to our customers and users’ privacy as directed by the Data Protection Acts of 1988, and 2003 and more recently by the new EU General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR) which became effective on 25thMay 2018.
If you wish to join the MSOI though our website link with PayPal or by applying for membership through our paper application, we will require some personal information from you to process your membership.
Data Limitation: We will only gather the basic necessary data from our members/potential members for the specific purpose it is intended. In other words, we shall only gather the data necessary to process your membership and to communicate to you as a member of the MSOI.
The data sought and retained is as follows:
§ Name, email address, phone number and address (for posting the MSOI journal and related MSOI material, such as event notifications etc.
Purpose Limitation and Record Retention Schedule: MSOI will only retain the “personal data” of the member for the time that the individual remains a member of MSOI. When membership is not renewed your data will be retained for 18 months from the time of expiration of membership. This is necessary only to facilitate re-joining the society. Lapsed membership data will be permanently deleted from our records after 18 months or prior to that date should it be requested by that lapsed member.
The sharing of your personal data with third parties:
Postal details: MSOI does not provide your personal data to any third parties with the exception of “An Post” which is the default Irish postal service provider we routinely use to dispatch journals etc. to you.
Financial Details: If you join the Medal Society of Ireland by paying your membership on line through the PayPal link on www.msoi.eu then your data will be processed in line with PayPal Privacy Policy. The latter is a reputable third-party financial organisation that has strict obligations to keep your personal and financial information private.
